The [perfect] Weekend

Posted by Brit

This has been a fantastic weekend.  Yes, I'm writing this on Monday night... today is President's day and so I had the day off.  For some reason I was feeling the need to do things this weekend; I'll admit my weekends usually include a lot of lounging.  I usually get up on Saturday to eat the breakfast Brandon has prepared for me, and he usually gets up on Sunday to eat the breakfast I've prepared for him.  After breakfast on both days I tend to go back to bed for a little while at least...

My weekend began with a great surprise on Friday Night!  Tia and her pup drove down to pay me a visit and she and I got ready together and then headed out for the evening to Rock Island Live in Old Town.  The Calamity Cubes!, Tater Famine, Filthy Still, and Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy all played kick ass sets.  I was so happy to be running around with old Tia again in Wichita.

Saturday I made breakfast for Tia, Brandon and I.  I napped and then did a little grocery shopping.  We had Brandon's family over for dinner.  He made carnitas, chile verde, and guac.  It was mouth-watering.  I seriously thought about that pork all day Sunday.

Sunday I ran some errands and got some crafting gear.  I purchased some beads and cord to make some bracelets, and began by making one last night.  I also picked up some candle making supplies.  I bought some Valentine's flowers for $2.50 at Dillons, and while I am sure the boys in my house could care less about them, I'm happy to have something to brighten the place up!
Today I made a chocolate peanut butter cream pie and then took it and lunch (leftover Carnitas) to Brandon's parents' house where he is working on remodeling their bathroom.  After lunch I headed home to work on making a candle.  I am pretty excited about the results!  The scent is Citrus Sage and it smells fresh and clean.  I bought some antique Ball canning jars at Metcalf Sisters Antiques while out and about Sunday and they worked perfectly!

One last thing I enjoy about my weekends this time of year is the afternoon sun that enters the living room when we have all of our (read: Brandon's) plants inside.

Have a happy week!

Cold Weekend

On Friday Darren and I went to Kirby's to watch Joey Henry and Cecelia Raheb play.  Darren hadn't been to Kirby's before, so it was cool to show him the place.

Yesterday I asked my friend Cassi over at the blog Laughter and Lattes for a few casserole recipes.  Cassi and her husband, Dave, are parents of one with one on the way.  Her blog chronicles their life, raising their daughter.  She's cooking great food along the way!  I suggest you check out her blog for some awesome recipes.  All three recipes she sent me looked delicious so we decided to make one last night.  We made the Chicken Noodle Soup Casserole, but I'll be making the other two very soon.  The other two she sent were Baked Ziti and Mexican Lasagna.  Here are a few pictures from last nights meal.

The smell of the carrots, celery, onion and garlic is amazing.

holidays

Posted by Brit

It's been a great season so far.  Here's a picture wrap-up of the last couple of weeks.  These are mostly fam pictures, but I did get to spend a great amount of time with Ashley and several other friends while they were home for the holidays.  It had been a long time since many of us had been all in the same room together.  The roads were a bit too icy here on New Year's Eve... so rather than driving to Wichita for a Carrie Nation and Calamity Cubes show I hung at home with Brandon.  We had an awesome time though.  I got great phone calls and texts from my friends Ashley and Tia.  Good night.

Went to Denver.
Horse Picture for Tia taken on Colorado Highway 94 East.  Nothing out there but old ranches and a beaten land.

Hosted a birthday poker.

Saw my favorites, Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy for the End of The World Party.  "We survived."

Hosted a Christmas morning breakfast.  The fam minus mom.  (Sorry mom the pics of you turned out blurry, or we were talking during them.)

I got little man to take a picture... he's great at it!

Grandma gets Ron a lap top for Christmas!

Aunt Kathy gets Bailey's.  Little did she know the conversation would get political... and she would need it!

Mom gets a perfect Christmas treat.

Road Trip

Posted by Brit

Last week Lauren, Tia, Sage and I took a road trip to West Yellowstone, MT for Farm Fest 2012 (click the link to see some of the bands)!  We had three Wichita bands there whom we are friends with: The Calamity Cubes, Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy, and the Slaughter Daughters.  It was unbelievably awesome!  We left Wednesday after work, picked up Sage along the way and drove straight through the night, arriving at noon on Thursday.  We got to drive through Yellowstone National Park on the way there and back.  On the way home we took our time and drove through Big Horn National Forest as well.  Here are some pictures from the trip!  I've linked the bands in the captions, so check them out!
